If a change of location is
in your future we invite you to invest a little time with us. We can show
you why West Tennessee, "The Well Kept Secret", has much to offer. If a
slower pace, less stressful lifestyle is of interest to you! If you're
relocating from a metro area you may find that "Less Equals More."
Less state and local
government = NO state income tax, very low property taxes (Tennessee ranks
47th for income versus all state taxes collected, 50 being the best
rating.) Also, insurance premiums are among the lowest in the nation
(homeowners and auto.)
No beer joints. While beer can be
purchased at local convenience stores we don't have the gathering places
where alcoholic beverages are served. We feel this contributes to our
charm, being laid back with a touch of the "Norman Rockwell" feeling.
Having a Christian college and no beer joints contributes to the "Living
Here" aspect.
No one major industry
= If you're coming from the north you will likely have an example in mind
where a small town was dependent upon one major industry and what happened
to the town when that industry closed or relocated. We have 20 small, very
diverse industries; should one close or relocate the shock would be
limited, our spirit would not be broken.
Not an industrial city
= The "Industrial Board" realizes that people are our greatest asset. Not
only does the Industrial Board spend time and money to attract new
industry, much effort is also given to attracting people to our small
town. We're not looking to change the spirit of our town, but, we invite
you to join and progress with us.
About
McKenzie
Possibly you have never heard the name. Located equi-distant between Memphis and Nashville it is also almost equi-distant between Chicago and New Orleans. The land in this section when the first settlers arrived was owned by the Chickasaw Indians. David Crockett attended Shiloh Church just east of town, President and Mrs. Grover Cleveland visited on October 15, 1887. Elvis Presley ate at a local restaurant as he was passing through, Al Gore stopped off to give the local politicians a boost and other distinguished folks have ties to the locale. The estimated population of McKenzie in
2000, according to the Census Bureau, was 5,295. 5,293 happy people and 2 old grouches. Looking at a map of West Tennessee you will find that McKenzie is in a portion of Carroll, Weakley and Henry counties.

The Park has a full service marina, one of the largest and most modern in Tennessee. The 100 room Inn at the park has an excellent dining room & complete convention facilities. There is an 18 hole golf course, two swimming pools, 80 campsites, picnic areas, lighted tennis courts and an outdoor game area. Reelfoot Lake State Park is approximately 50 miles west. This park provides some of the most picturesque views in the State. Reelfoot Lake is a favorite wintering ground of the American Bald Eagle and guided tours to view the majestic birds are offered during the winter months. There are several other parks close by for your enjoyment. Locally. We have a City Park and 18 hole golf course. McKenzie has the accoutrements that provide the enjoyment for a family to live life to it's fullest.
